Jack Carvel, a young ambitious clerk, is in the employ of the wealthy and aristocratic Mr. Fielding. Jack having an eye for all that is good and beautiful, dares to raise his eyes to Mabel, the daughter of his employer and is caught in the act of declaring his love to her, with the result that he is immediately dismissed from Mr. Fielding's employ. He is soon successful in securing a position as traveling companion for an invalid, with whom he goes on a ranch in California. A year later we find that Mr. Fielding has met with reverses in business; he and his daughter are compelled to leave their luxurious home for simpler quarters.
In the late 1880s, Colonel Carrington and his command are assigned the job of constructing a chain of forts in the Sious Indian territory of Wyoming. Carrington recruits former cavalry scouts Jim Bridger and "Dakota Jack" Gaines to lead the project. Bridger and Gaines are friendly with Sioux chief Red Cloud, and they feel a peace treaty with the Indians can be made. If an Indian-war breaks out, the cavalry is depending on getting a new type of Springfield rifle. Bridger, Gaines and Gaines wife, Maxine, arrive at the fort for the conference. Gaines, in a drunken fit, tries to intimidate the Indians unto signing a treaty. Chied Red Fox threatens war if his territory is invaded by any troops building forts.

Her fiancé finds not only Mabel, but also her mother, very displeased, and not inclined to believe his explanation.

The nearby diamond mine is using this as an excuse not to ship diamonds back to HQ in South Africa. The mine president has sent a doctor, his beautiful daughter and her duenna to find out what is going on and to cure the natives. They are travelling on foot. The real pioneers of space exploration were the Soviet cosmonauts. This remarkable feature-length documentary combines rare and unseen archive footage with interviews with the surviving cosmonauts to tell the fascinating and at times terrifying story of how the Russians led us into the space age. A particular highlight is Alexei Leonov, the man who performed the first spacewalk, explaining how he found himself trapped outside his spacecraft 500 miles above the Earth. Scary stuff.
